The 16th Asian Regional Conference on Soil Mechanic and Geotechncial Engineering
The 16th Asian Regional Conference on Soil Mechanic and Geotechncial Engineering was held on 14-18 October 2019 at Taipei International Convention Center (TICC), Taipei Taiwan. There was 491 abstracts accepted with 448 full papers being finalised. There was a total of 1061 registered participants however 933 participants eventually turned up at the event. The reduction of actual participants was due to many of the delegation from Japan especially Tokyo were unable to travel to Taipei as a result of the closure of airports which were affected by Typhoon Hagibis.
Malaysia, under the chapter of Malaysian Geotechnical Society (MGS) has 124 membership with ISSMGE which is the 4th largest membership after Japan, Korea and India at 1121, 546 and 240 respectively. About 20 or more Malaysian attended this conference.
MGS attended the 8th Council Meeting of the Asian Geotechnical Society of South East Asia (AGSSEA) on the Monday of 14 October 2019. Also, MGS attended the Asian Council Meeting on the Tuesday of 15 October 2019. At the Asian Council Meeting, Kazakhstan was voted to host the next 17th Asian Regional Conference in 2024.
