The Malaysian Geotechnical Society (MGS) was incorporated in 14 March 2013.
It was accepted to become a Member of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) in October 2013.
A committee consisting of the following, who shall be termed the office-bearers of the Society, shall be elected at the annual general meeting:
- President
- Deputy President
- Secretary General
- Honorary Treasurer
- Four (4) Ordinary Elected Committee Members
- Immediate Past President
In addition, the Committee may co-opt up to five (5) additional members of the Society to attend (generally for a period of one year).

Ir. Dr Chan Swee Huat is a Director of Geo-Excel Consultants Sdn. Bhd. He has been involved in design and construction of various geotechnical specialist works for the past 21 years.
Ir. Dr. Choo Chung Siung is currently a Senior Lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus. He obtained his BEng (Civil) (1st Class Honours) and PhD from Swinburne University of Technology.
Ir. Colin Lim is a Professional Engineer (P.E.) registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and an ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE). Currently, he serves as the Technical Manager for Malaysia and ANZ at Solmax, specializing in technical specifications and marketing of Value-Added Geomembranes for containment applications.
Dr. Tee Bun Pin is a civil engineer with a PhD from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, specializing in structural and geotechnical engineering. He has over a decade of industry experience in both consulting and contracting for high-rise and infrastructure projects. Since 2012, Dr. Tee has focused on applying Fibre Optic Sensing Technology in civil engineering projects across Southeast Asia and Central Asia, and has published widely on topics such as structural assessment and pile load testing in international conferences and journals.
Ir. Dr. Gue Chang Shin obtained his PhD from University of Cambridge, UK, MSc from Imperial College London and BEng from UTM. He is currently a Associate Director at G&P Professionals Sdn Bhd in Malaysia. He is also actively involved with IEM since 2013, and is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division (GETD) of IEM.
Ir. Lo Chong Chiun is a Technical Director of a consulting engineering firm based in Sabah. He has more than 30 years of experience in the design, contract administration and project management of major civil, structural, geotechnical and infrastructure development projects.
Mr. Ang Koh An (MBA 1986, BSc.Civil 1985 University of Kansas), Director of GDS Instruments Sdn Bhd since 1996 providing sales and service support of geotechnical instruments and equipment for laboratory and field testing. Actively promoting and advocating the latest state of the art technologies such as InSar and Fiber Optics which can enhance our fellow engineers' understanding on the behaviour of the geo-structures that are under and post construction.
Ir. Lim Keh Seng holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and Master Degree of Engineering Science from University of Malaya. He is currently a Director at GRE Engineering Solutions Sdn Bhd and Technical Advisor for GDS Instrument Sdn Bhd, RTL Lab Sdn Bhd and KSP Pile Test Pile (M) Sdn Bhd. He has been involved in design and construction of various geotechnical specialist works for the past 25 years.
Ir. Lee Peir Tien obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from University of Technology, Malaysia in 2001. He has been involved in design and construction of various geotechnical specialist works for the past 20 years. He is the Chairman for Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division (GETD) of IEM for Sessions 2017/2018 and 2018/2019.
Ir. Chow Chee Meng obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from University of Malaya and started his career with G&P Geotechnics, an independent Geotechnical and Geo-Environmental Engineering consulting company before joining Technip, specialising in the Oil & Gas industry.
He is currently the Director of G&P Geotechnics after re-joining them. He is also currently serving the Board of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM) as Investigating Committee Member on Professional Practice (since 2014) and is a member of the Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) for the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, SEGi University (since 2016).
He is currently the Director of G&P Geotechnics after re-joining them. Ir. Hjh Raftar Binti Mahfar holds a Degree in Civil Engineering from UTM and M.Sc in Civil & Structural Engineering from UKM. Ir. Hjh Raftah has over 30 years’ technical experience in the industry and she is actively involved with IEM as a Corporate Member and IEM’s Professional Engineer Interview.
Ir. Frankie Cheah is currently with the Engineering Division of AECOM majoring in major infrastructure and geotechnical projects. He obtained Msc in geotechnical engineering from NTU Singapore. He is a qualified civil and geotechnical engineer with more than 15 years of experience. His experience covers deep foundation, underground earth retaining structures, for both top down and bottom-up construction within Asia region.
Ir. Wong Chen Jack obtained his B. Eng. degree in Civil Engineering with Honours from University of Melbourne, Australia. His first employment was with a geotechnical engineering consultant in Kuala Lumpur where he was extensively involved in soft ground engineering such as ground treatment works and slope strengthening works.
In 2015, he set up CJ Consulting Engineers Sdn. Bhd. (CJCE) providing civil engineering consultancy services especially in geotechnical engineering. His experience covers engineering solutions in soft ground engineering, slope strengthening works, deep foundation and excavation works.

Ir. Chee Fong Wah obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from University of Putra, Malaysia in 2012. He has been involved in the design and construction of various geotechnical specialist works over the past 12 years, including the foundation for high-rise buildings of more than 40 storey, deep excavation design for KVMRT Line 1 & Line 2 and etc.
He has published technical papers on geotechnical engineering in international and local conferences. His research interests include foundation, deep excavation, soft ground engineering and slope stabilisation.
